Your suburb profile by Running Property
Situated on the coast 17 km east of central Brisbane, Thorneside (4158) is a suburb of Redland City that’s currently home to more than 3,500 people.
Thorneside was named after an early settler, William Thorne, who subdivided his land for small farm and seaside blocks in 1913. Like much of the Redland Shire, in the early settlement days Thorneside was a rich farming region that supplied much of Brisbane’s fruit and vegetables.
From the 1920s to the 1980s the residential suburb of Thorneside was developed. The Cleveland railway line serviced the suburb and the general Redlands area from 1889, before being shut down in 1960 when the population was considered to be insufficient to warrant the service.
Today, Twitchers and other solitary creatures of habit find much to love in the large wetland area near the mouth of Tingalpa Creek, west of Thorneside Road.
Data from realestate.com.au shows that the median Thorneside house price was $511K in 2016, with the median unit price being $322K. For investment property owners, Thorneside offers a median rent for houses of $420 per week, and the median rent for units $360 per week. Rental demand for both houses and units is high.
